About Bri

How long have you been doing CrossFit and how did you get started?

I have been doing CrossFit since 2008.  A fellow firefighter introduced me to it while we were on shift. I thought I was in pretty good shape at the time, but after he had me do a WOD with burpees, KB swings, and air squats leaving me gasping for air, I immediately wanted to learn more about this whole new world of CrossFit.  It was only a matter of months after that I got my Level 1 and helped Yurii Hanson of CrossFit Billings start up his affiliate out of his garage.  I spent 8 years coaching at CrossFit Billings before I made the transition into owner and coach of CrossFit Bozeman.  I can’t believe I will have been coaching for 10 years come 2018, time flies when you’re having fun ☺  I’m so glad I found CrossFit when I did, otherwise I might still be running my life away on a treadmill.  CrossFit not only has made me physically and mentally stronger, but it has changed and affected my life in so many positive ways.  I can’t say enough about the community of CrossFit and what it has meant to me and gotten me thru.  The community of like-minded people you find in CrossFit is like none other and until you are part of it you don’t know what you are missing.

Favorite WOD and why?

I LOVE the WODs that don’t require a lot of skill, but do require an engine that just keeps going (I think I get this from my IronMan days). I love the pain cave and the mental challenge of the longer duration WODs and I excel at pushing thru when others want to quit.  I have a ton of favorites but my top 5 would have to be:

  1. “Morrison”

  2. “Kelly”

  3. “Fight Gone Bad”

  4. “DT” (even though it’s not long, I love it!)

  5. Anything with burpees…LOVE them!

Favorite thing about coaching and what is my style?

My absolute favorite thing about coaching is watching an athletes mental transformation as they learn a new skill, or lift heavier than they thought they ever could, or watching them finish a WOD they deemed impossible before 3, 2, 1 go.  It is so awesome to watch them hold their head a bit higher as the minutes, hours, and days go by in their CrossFit journey…watching and coaching someone to become an ATHLETE never gets old!

I think my style is different for every athlete.  I try to gauge how I approach athletes and how I coach them depending on who it is and what their goals are.  I would say in general I try to push athletes to the next level by breaking down their mental barriers and pushing them outside their "comfort zone".

The majority of athletes that come thru the door at CFB get an hour a day to better them selves and to have FUN at the gym.  I’m a mom, a wife, a business owner, and just plain busy and my goals are different now than they used to be.  I can identify with, and love to help the general population at CFB feel better about them selves and give them the best hour of their day while they are here at the gym.   If what we do in here as coaches helps them to be better out there at whatever they do in life, it’s a WIN for everyone involved!

Are you available for personal training or available if I have questions?

I am available for personal training and can be reached at bri@crossfitbozeman.com I love helping athletes get their first kipping pull-up, Toes to Bar, or Handstand push-up.  I also love to help athletes who are interested in competing for their first time or who need help working CrossFit in with their other training (i.e. Ridge Run, triathlons, etc.).

What's my favorite quote or motivational saying?

One of my favorite all time sayings, “The body achieves what the mind believes.”

You were put on this earth to achieve your greatest self…Do it courageously.  Be bold and be you. Improve yourself and improve your world.
